so you finished Fourth Wing…
dragons, lethal competitions, political secrets, impossible alliances and romance that really does not need another life-or-death situation
The problem with finishing Fourth Wing is that sometimes you do not just want another fantasy romance.
You want the feeling again.
The one-more-chapter pacing. The training. The danger. The secrets. The moment when a character makes a decision so questionable that putting the book down is no longer an option.
But different readers miss different parts of Basgiath.
So instead of handing you a pile of vaguely similar books and hoping for the best, pick the part of Fourth Wing your brain is currently refusing to move on from.

if you miss the dragons…
Fireborne
Rosaria Munda
This is the one I would hand to the reader whose first complaint after finishing Fourth Wing is simply:
but where am I supposed to get my dragon riders now?
Annie and Lee have spent years training to join a new governing class of dragonriders after a revolution completely reshapes their society.
They are friends, rivals and products of opposite sides of the political upheaval that created the world they now have to defend.
You still get dragon training and aerial danger, but Fireborne leans much harder into revolution, class, loyalty and political consequences.
Think less spicy Basgiath, more “what if the dragon academy also made you question the entire political system?”

if you miss wondering whether anyone will survive the chapter…

The Serpent and the Wings of Night
Carissa Broadbent
Replace dragons with vampires and Basgiath’s survival curriculum with a lethal tournament.
Oraya enters the Kejari, a legendary competition held by the goddess of death, and forms an alliance with Raihn, someone she has every reason to consider dangerous.
This is the recommendation for the reader who loved the constant feeling that the characters might genuinely not make it through the next challenge.
You also get reluctant trust, attraction developing under terrible circumstances and a heroine whose vulnerability can become a liability very quickly.

if the secrets were half the fun…
The Bridge Kingdom
Danielle L. Jensen
No dragons here.
Instead, you get an assassin bride entering an enemy kingdom with one very clear mission:
find its weaknesses and help destroy it.
Lara has been trained to believe the Bridge Kingdom is responsible for her people’s suffering. Then she marries its king and discovers that political truths are rarely as convenient as she was taught.
If the secret alliances, divided loyalties and “everything I believed may be wrong” side of Fourth Wing had you hooked, this is your lane.

if you mostly came for danger + chemistry…

A Fate Inked in Blood
Danielle L. Jensen
Freya discovers that the divine magic she carries may make her the shield maiden of prophecy, capable of helping unite a fractured nation.
Which sounds glamorous until powerful people immediately begin treating her destiny like a political resource.
Add a forbidden attraction to Bjorn, the warrior ordered to protect and train her, and you get something that hits a lot of the same emotional buttons as Fourth Wing.
Training. Physical danger. A heroine becoming more powerful. Political manipulation. And a relationship that would be much easier if everyone involved could behave professionally for five minutes.

if you want the battlefield version…
The Hurricane Wars
Thea Guanzon
Talasyn and Alaric do not meet at school.
They meet on opposite sides of an actual war.
Talasyn carries rare light magic. Alaric is the heir to the empire she has spent her life fighting, wielding shadow magic on behalf of his father.
Their powers collide. Then combine.
Which is, admittedly, an inconvenient development when killing each other would make far more political sense.
If you want magical battles, military stakes and enemy chemistry without needing another academy setting, this is probably your best transition.
